Yeah, I'm having the same problem with "Gravity's Rainbow".
it's reading something dutiful, knowing you SHOULD, and that SOMEWHERE the author will leave you with SOMETHING to think about, but it's so smurfing DENSE with plot machinations that you're too busy keeping track of who is doing what to whom in what decade that you can't appreciate the story for the story.
I went right back to Cryptonomicon, and am re-reading to cleanse the palette.
